Alpine Biochar
Carbon Valleys aims to implement a pyrolysis plant in the alpine valleys of canton Uri and Wallis. Local biomass will produce heat, power and biochar. From availability of biomass to the choice of location, contracts with suppliers and the marketing of the products: Carbon Valleys accepts the challenge to produce high quality biochar as a carbon sink to contribute to the Swiss net-zero goals.

Negacirculative Materials

KohlenKraft has developed a climate positive additive which seamlessly reduces the carbon footprint of existing construction materials. Together with KEIM and Kradolfer, KohlenKraft has delivered a carbon negative plaster for the construction market, giving architects and planners the opportunity to reduce the CO2 footprint of their projects in style.

The Sustainable Innovation Challenge
The aim of EPFL’s Sustainable Innovation Challenge association is to organize a new competition for university student teams working on sustainable technologies. The first edition will be a multi-category event taking place on the 13th & 14th of March 2025, which aims to explore a range of technologies from low-tech approaches to advanced CDR. The long term objective is to become a world reference when it comes to the promotion and gathering of pioneering student initiatives working in these fields.
Sunlight-Driven CO2 Capture
Direct Air Capture (DAC), offers measurable, immediate results with minimal land use requirements. Although DAC has gained recent momentum, one of the main challenges for scaling DAC is its extremely high cost, which is significantly impacted by the high amount of energy, required for the CO2-release step. In search of minimizing and diversifying the renewable energy demand for CO2-release, we are developing a new DAC technology where sunlight serves as the trigger for the release of CO2.
